Chattogram Bureau: In Boalkhali,Chittagong,Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim said a project would be taken up to build a seven-kilometer defense barrier to prevent erosion of the Boalkhali section of the Karnafuli River.
This work will start before next monsoon.If it is built,15 km area will be protected from erosion. He added that another mega project has been undertaken at a cost of around Tk 1,700 crore to alleviate water logging in Chittagong metropolis.The army is implementing this work.
Besides, work is underway in 15 upazilas of Chittagong under the Water Development Board to prevent river canal erosion.
He was speaking to reporters after inspecting the erosion of the Boalkhali section of the Kanarfuli River here today (November 29).
Local MP Alhaj Moslem Uddin Ahmed and officials of the Water Development Board were present at the time.
Later, the Deputy Minister addressed a public meeting of Boalkhali Upazila Awami League. During the meeting,MP Moslem Uddin Ahmed said that the work of the much-desired Kalurghat Multipurpose Bridge will soon be visible in addition to the river erosion in Boalkhali as a continuation of the government’s development.
South District Awami League General Secretary Mofizur Rahman,Upazila Chairman Nurul Alam, Awami League leader Shafiul Alam Enamul Haque Talukder and other leaders were present at the meeting held at local Chodhurihat.
