Five leaders of Sylhet district Awami League have been expelled for violating party discipline.
Acting President of Sylhet District Awami League Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury and General Secretary Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan have confirmed this in a circular.
The expelled are- Jalalabad Union Awami League General Secretary. Manik Mia, former general secretary of the same union Awami League Ashrab Ali, former joint general secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan Chhatra League Ashraf Siddiqui, member of France Awami League Joynal Abedin and senior vice-president of Mollargaon Union Awami League Md. According to the statement, five Awami League leaders in two unions of Sylhet Sadar Upazila have taken a stand against the party’s nominee in the upcoming Union Parishad elections. They have disobeyed the party and become a rebel candidate for the post of chairman. Therefore, the party has been expelled from the post of primary member on the charge of breach of discipline as per sub-section 11 of section 47.
It is learned that Manik Mia, Ashrab Ali and Joynal Abedin have become rebel candidates in Jalalabad Union in the second phase of UP elections. Mia has become a rebel candidate in Mollargaon Union.
