Shahidul Islam: Police have recovered the hanging body of a woman named Nusrat Jahan (28) from the Parliament Secretariat quarters in the capital’s Agargaon. Her home is Khagrachhari. This young woman from Tripura community converted and changed her name.
At that time, a suicide note was found next to Nivedita’s body, police said. But the police officer working in the investigation said that he was unable to reveal what was written in the suicide note as the investigation was ongoing.
Nusrat’s husband Mamun Millat was arrested by the rabbis at the Gabtoli bus stand in Dhaka on June 15 while fleeing after the incident. Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Ashish Sarkar said that he had introduced himself as a BCS cadre police officer before marriage.
Nusrat’s body was found hanging with a ceiling fan after the neighbors called the National Emergency Service 999 at 1.30 pm on Saturday and went to the B-2 quarters of the Parliament Secretariat.
Sub-inspector Ashish told the media, “Mamun Millat, the husband of the deceased, had been living in a sublet in the quarter with Nusrat as a police officer of the 36th BCS.”
Citing Nusrat’s relatives, he said that even though Mamun introduced himself as a police officer during the marriage, it was fake. There were regular quarrels between them since they found out.
After this incident, the police also found out about him and found out that Mamun is not a police officer. Sher-e-Bangla Police Station SI Ashish said he did nothing.
Nivedita Royaja alias Nusrat was an active student of Chhatra League when she was a student of Khagrachhari Government College. He had close contacts with influential ministers in the government, MPs. He used to regularly post pictures with influential people of the government on his Facebook. He was quite popular through social media.
Nivedita came to the discussion for the first time after marrying a Bengali boy out of love. The regional parties in the hills have a prohibited relationship and have strict penalties for it. Although Nivedita was also threatened through social media, she did not heed the threat as she was associated with the ruling party.
After that, a 2 minute 41 second video about her private relationship with her husband spread through social media and Nivedita came to the discussion for the second time. This leader of Damcare nature did not pay much attention to this adult video taken voluntarily. However, various sources have said that there was a rift between them over the issue.
According to the police, the converted woman converted to Islam in 2019 after marrying Mamun Millat. The body was recovered and sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy in the afternoon.
Police called the incident a suicide, but Nivedita’s relatives thought it was a murder. Meanwhile, on social media, Nivedita’s colleagues are demanding justice for Mamun’s husband Mamun, calling it a murder.
It is learned that Nivedita fell in love with Millat Mamun while she was a member of Khagrachhari District Chhatra League. After converting from traditional religion, she reluctantly got married and started living permanently with her husband in Dhaka.
Nusrat’s father and uncle lodged a complaint at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. Subject to investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken, said SI Ashish.
