Three people, including brothers and sisters, were killed in an accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. Five more people were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The accident took place on Monday afternoon in front of Andiura Ummetunnesa High School in Madhabpur. The deceased were identified as Mosharraf Mia, 3, son of Kudduch Mia of Rasulpur village under the upazila, his daughter Shahinur Akter Rupa, 7, and Madhu Das, 35, son of Ajit Das of Satberg village under Vijaynagar upazila.
The injured have been identified as Bilkich Begum, 30, wife of Kudduch Mia of the same family in Rasulpur village and Jabbar Mia, 28, brother of Kudduch. Rahmat Ali’s son Abdullah (22), CNG driver Kabir Mia (25), son of late Saru Mia of Bejura village, Mahmuda (32), wife of Chalek Mia of Madhabpur municipality.
According to local sources, a Sylhet-bound Sagarika Paribahan passenger bus from Dhaka hit the CNG autorickshaw on its way to Madhabpur Hospital with his wife, two children and brother to see a doctor with the sick child of Quddush Miah of Rasulpur village in the upazila. Mosharraf and Madhu Das, sons of Quddush Miah, were killed on the spot. After rescuing the injured and taking them to Madhabpur Hospital, the on-duty doctor Shahinur Akhter declared Rupa dead.
Shayestaganj Highway Police Station OC Mainul Islam confirmed the incident. The driver of the deadly bus Hafiz Uddin (42) and his assistant Liton Mia (35) were arrested by Madhabpur police.
