Khagrachari, Correspondent: 2,500 solar systems will be provided in remote areas of Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachhari three hill districts. Providing this solar system for free will benefit the locals of hilly areas without electricity.

A proposal to this effect was approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement on Thursday (August 19th).

The meeting, chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, passed a proposal to supply electricity (second phase) by installing solar panels in remote areas of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

After the meeting, Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Samsul Arefin said the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board under the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs would purchase equipment for the project from Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited at a cost of Tk 204.33 crore.

He added that under the project, 40,000 solar home systems with 100 watt peak capacity and 2,500 solar community systems with 320 watt peak capacity will be set up for the three hill districts.
