Two victim families held separate press conferences in Tungipara, Gopalganj, alleging embezzlement and extramarital affairs against an official of Rupali Life Insurance Company. They raised these allegations at separate press conferences held at the Tungipara Upazila Press Club on Friday (July 4) morning.
At the first press conference, the victim, Sharmin Akhter, alleged that she had been working under Saidur Rahman at Rupali Life Insurance for a long time. Although the money raised from the field was handed over to Saidur Rahman, he did not deposit it in the office. Later, the office authorities blamed him for the capital discrepancy and created pressure.
This forced him to promise to pay one hundred and seven thousand taka. Sharmin further said that Saidur Rahman not only committed financial fraud, but also removed documents from her drawers and forced her to sign checks and stamps. She even mentioned torture.
The victim woman also said that she has filed a complaint with Tungipara Police Station regarding these incidents. At another press conference on the same day, victim Tabassum Khan alleged that his wife Halima Khanam got into an illicit relationship with her colleague Saidur Rahman while working as a field worker for Rupali Life Insurance.
This relationship caused a rift in his married life. He alleged that his wife even threatened to kill him after he allegedly received a transaction of 3 million taka from this influential official. Tabassum Khan also said that Halima, lured by several local families to give her allowance, collected four lakh taka and handed it over to Saidur.
The family is now demanding the money back, and he claimed in a press conference that he is suffering from mental stress and insecurity as a result. Tungipara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khorshed Alam said that the complaint will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
