CCC evicts and collects fines in Station Road, New Market and Riazuddin Bazar.
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has evicted shops illegally occupying sidewalks in Station Road, New Market intersection and Riazuddin Bazar areas of Chittagong city. In addition, fines were immediately collected against those shops that did not have trade licenses.
CCC’s Regional Executive Officer Pranoy Chakma led the drive on Wednesday. On this day, 9 shopkeepers were fined a total of Tk 16,000 in a total of 9 cases as per the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009. CCC Mayor’s Private Secretary Maruful Islam Chowdhury, Tax Officer Biplob Kumar Chowdhury, and officers and employees of the cleanliness department of CCC and members of the striking force were present at the time.
Regarding the drive, Pranoy Chakma, Regional Executive Officer of CCC, said, “Regular drives will be conducted against shops that are occupying the sidewalks, creating obstacles to the movement of pedestrians. Those who do not have a trade license will have to obtain a license, otherwise legal action will be taken. Earlier, although the hawker leaders said to operate their business before 3 pm, they did not follow through. However, after today’s drive, the hawkers will not operate their business before 3 pm and even if they do operate their business, they will operate their business on wheeled vehicles instead of building establishments.
Everyone’s cooperation is desirable in implementing the Mayor’s goal of making Chittagong a clean, green, and healthy city.”
According to CCC sources, such drives will be ongoing in various important areas of the city to ensure normal movement of the public.
At this time, some pedestrians can be heard saying how logical is it that CCC is occupying the sidewalks in the name of a passenger shelter and constructing an establishment at the kazir Deuri intersection..? Although such a picture was observed on the ground, no answer was received.
