Female prisoners in Gopalganj try to become self-reliant by learning embroidery on kantha and sarees

Gopalganj Correspondent
With the overall support of the Gopalganj Prison authorities, female prisoners are becoming self-sufficient by making needlework on nakshi kantha and saris. Every stitch speaks of freedom, showing the dream of a new life. In Gopalganj prison, female prisoners are becoming self-reliant by sewing artistic and attractive designs of Nakshi Kantha on block print sarees, trained with the full support of the prison authorities. The Gopalganj prison authorities, after deducting expenses, give half of the profit from the money earned by selling this Kantha embroidery in remote areas of the country to the female prisoners. In this regard, Tania Zaman of Gopalganj district told “Dainik Banglar Nabkantha and The Daily Morning Glory” that under the guidance of the current Inspector General of Prisons, Brigadier General Syed Md. Motaher Hossain Sir, various steps have been taken in all prisons of the country, including training in various trades for the purpose of self-employment and prisoner rehabilitation. In addition to training male prisoners in various jobs to make them self-reliant, Gopalganj District Jail has also started self-employment for female prisoners in the form of needlework and embroidery on block print fabrics. This is helping the female prisoners become self-reliant. There are currently 20 female inmates and prisoners in this prison, all of whom are spontaneously becoming self-sufficient by sewing Nakshi Kantha. These female prisoners are currently in prison for drug cases and for failing to repay loans from various financial institutions, including NGOs. They will be able to become self-sufficient by getting training in embroidery, kantha and sewing from here. In the future, they will be able to use these skills at home and become financially self-sufficient. In addition, various activities are underway in Gopalganj Prison to help male prisoners become self-reliant. Prisons are not just prisons. This is a correctional facility. According to prison sources, 42 prisoners have been taught the Holy Quran Sharif starting from primary level in the last three months. Which is still ongoing. There is also an effort to complete the literacy of prisoners who do not have literacy skills. Nowadays, it is not a prison, but is really taking shape as a correctional facility day by day. “We will keep you safe, we will show you the path of light” is the main mantra of the prison. This is no longer just the language of books, it is now taking shape in reality. Here, prisoners are being taught every day to turn away from drugs and injustice. Talking to some recently released prisoners, it is known that prisons are no longer the same as they were before, we are also trying to turn away from the path of injustice and live an honest life. If every prison can guide its inmates in this way, our society will be crime-free. All these manpower will one day be transformed into manpower.
