A rally and discussion meeting were held to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The program was organized by the District Administration and the Narcotics Control Department District Office on Thursday morning. At 10 am, a colorful rally started from in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and after parading various roads, a discussion meeting and award distribution ceremony were organized in the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room. Additional District Magistrate Sukhmoy Sarkar presided over the discussion, moderated by Assistant Sub-Inspector of the District Narcotics Control Department Md. Shariful Islam, while Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rafiquzzaman spoke as the chief guest. Documentaries on various activities of the District Narcotics Control Department were screened at the event. Speaking as special guests were Deputy Director of the Local Government Department Md. Ariful Islam Sardar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Swajal Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Afrin Sultana. The welcome speech was delivered by Md. Al Amin, Inspector of the District Narcotics Control Department. Kamal Hossain, chairman of the drug addiction treatment center “Paribortan”, and others. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of a drawing competition held by school and college students on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
