Houseboat Movement Banned in Tanguar Haor to Protect Biodiversity

To protect the biodiversity of Tanguar Haor in Sunamganj and to prevent environmental degradation, the Sunamganj district administration has imposed a ban on houseboat movement in the haor.
The ban was announced on Sunday night, June 22, through a notice signed by Md. Rezaul Karim, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Acting Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj.
According to the notice, houseboat movement in the Tanguar Haor Watch Tower area and its surroundings will remain suspended until further notice. Additionally, the district administration has urged everyone to strictly follow the previously announced guidelines regarding visits to other tourist spots in Sunamganj. The notice also mentioned that legal action would be taken against those who violate these instructions.
Environmentalists and conscious citizens have welcomed this initiative of the district administration to protect the haor’s environment and ecosystem. Acting Deputy Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim said, “The district administration is committed to preserving the natural environment and biodiversity of Tanguar Haor. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone who disobeys the directives.”
