Courtesy call on Australian Border Force delegation at Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters in Agargaon

Today, Monday, 23 June 2025, Rear Admiral Brett Sunter, Commander of the Australian Maritime Border Command and Commander of the Joint Agency Task Force (JATF), Operation Sovereign Borders (OSB), and a delegation from the Australian Embassy visited the Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters.

In his welcome speech at the event, Bangladesh Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Md. Ziaul Haque expressed his hope that the existing milestone of maritime security and cooperation between Bangladesh and Australia would be further strengthened. He also emphasized the need to further strengthen the joint partnership between the two countries in proper enforcement of maritime laws, increasing regional awareness and capacity building.

He also mentioned that real-time information exchange, joint training and strategic coordination are essential to prevent international crimes, illegal fishing, human and drug trafficking and terrorist activities at sea. He further said that for this purpose, Bangladesh Coast Guard and Australian Border Force are working on the basis of professionalism and common determination.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard Director General said that the effectiveness of the force has increased significantly due to the training, technical assistance and surveillance capacity enhancement with the assistance of Australia. He expressed hope that this cooperation will be further expanded in the future.

At the end of the ceremony, Bangladesh Coast Guard thanked the Australian delegation for their presence. The representatives of Bangladesh Coast Guard and Australian Border Force expressed their determination to maintain the continuity of friendly relations and partnerships formed for mutual benefit and to ensure long-lasting friendship between the two countries.
