A workshop and seminar on “Preventing Misjournalism in the Media and Providing Objective News” was held by the Bangladesh Press Council with the participation of journalists from print and electronic media. The day-long training workshop was held at the Bangladesh Press Council office on Tuesday (June 17). The workshop started from 10 am and continued till 2 pm. Justice AKM Abdul Hakim, Chairman of the Bangladesh Press Council, delivered a speech as the chief guest at the workshop. At this time, he said, there is no alternative to acquiring knowledge to gain skills for news workers. Law alone is not enough to establish responsible and objective journalism. The prudence and ethics of media workers play an important role in this. We all have a responsibility to the country. Therefore, everyone should work for the welfare of the country and the people from their own place. In this regard, media workers should adhere to the oath of journalists issued by the Bangladesh Press Council. Moreover, journalists should adhere to the Code of Conduct issued by the Press Council. The workshop discussed in detail the importance of following the Press Council’s code of conduct for reporting factual news and the application of the Press Council Act 1974 in practicing responsible journalism by avoiding un-journalism. In the open discussion session, media professionals shared their thoughts on developing positive journalism. Bangladesh Press Council Secretary Md. Abdus Sabur spoke as a special guest at the workshop conducted by Press Council Superintendent Md. Shakhawat Hossain. Forty-six print and electronic media trainees participated in the training workshop. At the end of the training, the chief guest, Justice AKM Abdul Hakim, distributed certificates among the participants.
