Nationwide Operations Against Banned Polythene, Noise, and Air Pollution

Today, three mobile court operations were conducted in Gaibandha, Gazipur, and Keraniganj, Dhaka, for violations of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act. As part of these initiatives by the Ministry of Environment and the Department of Environment, the owner of a banned polythene manufacturing factory was sentenced to three months of rigorous imprisonment. Additionally, 8,615 kg of polythene were seized, and the factory was sealed. Several super shops and stores were also warned to cease the use of polythene.
Furthermore, in accordance with the Air Pollution Control Rules, 2022, two mobile courts were conducted in Pallabi and Adabor, Dhaka, targeting air pollution caused by construction materials. A total of BDT 23,000 was collected in fines across four cases, and nearby establishments were warned. Instructions were also given for the immediate removal of some construction materials.
Under the Noise Pollution Control Rules, 2006, three mobile courts in Rajbari and Darus Salam, Dhaka, resulted in the collection of BDT 19,000 in fines across 11 cases, and 7 hydraulic horns were seized. Drivers involved in these operations were given cautionary messages.
Additionally, to prevent black smoke emissions, a mobile court was conducted today in Darus Salam, Dhaka. Here, a total of BDT 6,000 in fines was collected in two cases, and transport drivers were warned.
Such operations to curb pollution will continue regularly.
