In Gazaria, Munshiganj, rival gangs beat up a young man and set a motorcycle on fire over a past enmity. The incident is said to have occurred at around 11:30 am on Sunday (June 15) in Hoglakandi village of Imampur union in Gazaria upazila. The victim is Shakil Sarkar (25), son of Salauddin Sarkar of Hoglakandi village in Imampur union of Gazaria upazila. Shakib Sarkar, the elder brother of injured Shakil Sarkar, who witnessed the incident, said, “My brother Shakil is an Ansar member.” The local Hridoy Bagh and his people were angry with my brother for various reasons. They thought that my brother was from their rival Lalu-Saikat group. As a result of this incident, on Sunday morning around 11:30 am, they stopped my brother on the road to Hoglakandi village while he was on his way to Bhaberchar on a motorcycle. At that time, 10/12 people including Hridoy Bagh and his accomplice Hamim beat up my brother and set fire to the motorcycle and fled. We immediately informed the police about the matter. Locals said that the Amirul Islam member group had a dispute with the Lalu-Saikat group of Hoglakandi village in Gazaria Upazila over various issues including expansion of dominance. Lalu-Saikat and Hridoy Bagh were associated with Awami League politics. Hridoy Bagh was the candidate for the presidency of Imampur Union Chhatra League. Although the accused Hridoy Bagh’s mobile phone was called several times to inquire about the matter, it was not possible to speak to him. Regarding the matter, Amirul Islam member said, ‘We are in Munshiganj for work on a case. Hridoy Bag is sick, he has a problem with his legs. “He is currently staying at home because he can’t walk properly. I don’t believe he is doing this on purpose.” Regarding the matter, Anwar Alam Azad, officer-in-charge of Gazaria Police Station, said, “I have also received such news. As soon as the news was received, police were sent to the spot. Action will be taken after investigation.”
