Chittagong District Administration’s Campaign on Excess Bus Fare & Market Monitoring

A mobile court was conducted in Chittagong to prevent excess bus fare collection and enforce the Road Transport Act, 2018.
Every year, passengers are seen suffering by demanding excess bus fares around the holy Eid-ul-Azha. To alleviate the suffering of passengers and prevent excess fare collection of BRTA-determined bus fare, the Chittagong District Administration, in collaboration with BRTA, conducted a mobile court in the Chandgaon area of the city on June 4.
The campaign was led by the District Administration, Chittagong Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Moinul Hasan, Rayyan Ferdous and Subrata Halder
During the campaign, warnings were given about various laws including not displaying the correct fare list as per the relevant sections of the Road Transport Act, 2018, charging more than the prescribed price, using transport vehicles in public places without route permits, but no case was filed as no serious offense was found.
During this time, a fine of Tk 14,500 was imposed in 3 separate cases for not maintaining a price list, operating without a license, and not displaying the expiration date on the products.
The District Administration, Chittagong has informed that such campaigns will be conducted regularly to ensure the safety of the city residents, ensure fair fares for passengers, and restore order on the roads. Strict action will continue to be taken against lawbreakers in the future.
