Save lives from plastic pollution, show hatred for the plastic monster. World Environment Day is on Wednesday, June 5th at noon. On the occasion of this day, environmental activists organized an exceptional initiative at the Moktarpara ground in the district town. The theme of this year’s day is “Ending Plastic Pollution”. The day was celebrated in a different way in the municipal town on June 4, 2025, organized by the district’s Education, Culture, Environment and Diversity Protection Committee, and the Sabuj Samhati Committee, in collaboration with BARSIC. A plastic monster was created by attaching various plastic materials to its body, with the aim of raising public awareness about its harmful effects on agriculture, human and animal health, and the environment, including soil, water, and air. The monster was placed on the corner of Moktarpara Field along the main road to show public hatred. On the occasion of the day, the discussion was moderated by Alpana Begum, Member Secretary of the District Education, Culture, Environment and Diversity Protection Committee and District Representative of Soyo TV and Pratidin Bangladesh Media. Deputy Commissioner Banani Biswas spoke as the chief guest in the discussion. Among others, Assistant Director of the District Environment Department Abdullah Al Matin, Journalist Shyamlendu Pal, Regional Director of BARSIC, Ahidur Rahman, etc. spoke. After the discussion, the Deputy Commissioner showed his hatred by hitting the portrait of the plastic monster with a stick. Later, other participants and passersby showed their hatred by hitting the plastic monster portrait with sticks. The plastic monster portrait was made by Sabuj Samhati Committee member, young organizer, cultural activist Md. Jewel Runner, along with leaders of district socio-cultural organizations and journalists.
