Police have solved the mystery of the murder of a young man named Idu Mia (20) by slitting his throat in Mohanganj upazila of the district. Idu Mia was murdered by slitting his throat over a dispute over online gambling. The accused, Md. Rafiq alias Habu alias Abu (28), who was arrested by the police in this incident, gave a confessional statement in the magistrate’s court on Tuesday afternoon. Netrokona Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Saheb Ali Pathan confirmed this information in a press release sent to journalists on Tuesday (June 3) afternoon. Earlier, a team of Mohanganj Police Station and District Detective Branch (DB) Police conducted a joint operation in the Chayashi (Hatnaiya) area of ​​Mohanganj Upazila on Monday and arrested Abu. The arrested person is Md. Rafiq alias Habu alias Abu, son of the deceased Abdul Hekim of Chayashi village in the upazila. Police said that Raihan Ahmed Idu Mia, a resident of Adarshnagar Shibir area of ​​Mohanganj upazila, went missing on May 26 at around 9:30 pm. The next morning, locals recovered his mutilated body with his throat slit inside the abandoned BRAC Shishu School nearby. When the matter became known, extreme panic spread in the area. The next day, the deceased’s elder brother, Md. Sumon Mia, filed a murder case against unknown accused at Mohanganj Police Station. A joint team of the police station and DB police launched an operation to uncover the mystery of the incident. At one point, the police were able to unravel the mystery of the incident by analyzing CCTV footage. Later, on Monday, police arrested Rafiq alias Habu alias Abu from the Chayashi area of ​​the upazila. During initial interrogation, Abu admitted to being involved in the murder. Later, when Abu was produced before the magistrate’s court, he gave a confessional statement under Section 164. Citing Abu’s confessional statement, the police further said that Idur had a financial dispute with a local youth named Mosharraf Hossain regarding online gambling.
Because of this, on the night of May 26, Mosharraf, Abu and a few others cleverly called Idu and took him outside. Later, they tied his face and beat him with sharp weapons, and then brutally killed him by slitting his throat. After the murder, they threw the weapon they used in a ditch near the scene and fled. Mohanganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Aminul Islam said, “We started working to unravel the mystery immediately after the incident.” At one point, a CCTV footage helps us reach our goal. The murder was originally committed over a dispute over online gambling. All those involved in the murder have been identified. One suspect has been arrested, sent to court and has confessed. A drive is underway to arrest the fugitive Musharraf and other accused. They will be arrested soon.
