Trawler carrying 39 passengers sinks in Meghna, 2 policemen and 19 missing

A trawler carrying 39 passengers has capsized in the Meghna River in Hatia, Noakhali, due to strong winds and waves. Nineteen passengers, including two policemen, are still missing in this incident. The accident occurred on Saturday (May 31) at around 3 pm in the Meghna River at Dubarchar, adjacent to Karim Bazar in the upazila. This information was confirmed by Bhasanchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Qutub Uddin and Hatia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Ajmal Huda. It was learned that a trawler carrying 39 passengers, including 4 policemen, Rohingya patients, Ansar members, and people from various NGO organizations, set off from Bhasanchar towards Ali Bazar Ghat in Harani Union at around 2 pm. On the way, the trawler sank in the Meghna River at Dubarchar, adjacent to Karimbazar, 7-8 kilometers away from Bhasanchar. The OC of Bhasanchar Police Station immediately informed the Navy and Coast Guard about the matter. Hatia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Ajmal Huda said the trawler sank with 39 passengers on board. Of these, 19-20 have been rescued alive. 2 policemen are still missing. The Coast Guard is currently conducting an operation to rescue the missing passengers.
