Jamaat-e-Islami’s Central Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafqul Islam Khan says, “We still do not get the new form of our media rights, especially the party’s registration, even though we have not received it since the beginning of the year.” A party meeting was organized at Abbas Ali Khan’s toilet in Aramnagar area of Joypurhat on Thursday (29th) at 4 pm under the chairmanship of Jamaat-e-Islami Joypurhat district branch Ameer Dr Fazlur Rahman Sayeed. District Secretary Golam Kabira conducted the meeting. The chief guest said these in his speech at the event. The special guest at the event was Professor Nazrul Islam, team member of Jamaat-e-Islami Bogra region in Bangladesh. In addition, the current assistant secretary Hasbul Alam Latin, Advocate Mamunur Rashid, SM Rashedul Alam Sabuj and other leaders were also present. The chief guest said, “The fascist government was killing our leaders through fake cases and rigged verdicts. This has been proven once again through the release of AMT Azharul Islam. This verdict is highlighting to the nation how the judicial system was being used as a tool of political violence.” Regarding party reform, he said, “We have got the right to freedom of expression after the reform of Jamaat-e-Islami. But we are still deprived of our right to vote.” Regarding elections and reforms, Maulana Rafqul Islam Khan said, “The necessary political and administrative reforms must be completed quickly to bring political stability to the country. Part of this is to organize local government elections first. In the past, people in this country never got the benefit of a fair election. Hence, the Election Commission should formulate a realistic roadmap and gift a free, fair and acceptable election to the people.” He further said, “Jamaat-e-Islami believes in establishing a humane and Islamic welfare state in Bangladesh—where there will be no place for terrorism, extortion and oppression. In this era, students, youth and the general people are sacrificing not for eye-catching elections, but for justice and equality.” At the gathering, he called for restoring party unity and ensuring opportunities for free and peaceful participation in Jamaat-e-Islami’s political activities. He underlined Jamaat’s registration must return.
