Deer cubs were swept away by the onslaught of Cyclone Shakti in the Sundarbans, but were saved by the bravery of forest workers

Severe storms have occurred in various parts of the Eastern Sundarbans due to the impact of Cyclone Shakti, putting the wildlife in the forest area in extreme danger. A deer cub was swept away by a stream of water in the Shelarchar patrol area of the Sundarbans at around 9 am on Thursday (May 29). However, the cub was saved thanks to the efforts of the forest department. Forest department patrolling staff said that a deer cub was swept away from the forest area and was heading towards the sea due to the storm surge. As soon as the incident was noticed, forest officials immediately launched a rescue operation. In this life-threatening operation, they were able to rescue the cub alive. Later, the cub was cured through primary treatment and care by the Forest Department and released to a safe place in the Sundarbans. Forest officer Momin Sharif said, “The animals of the Sundarbans are at extreme risk during natural disasters. At this time, our responsibility is not only to protect the forest, but also to ensure the safety of every animal.” “Our employees are carrying out that responsibility with skill and courage.” The humanitarian initiative and bravery of the forest workers participating in the rescue operation has been praised by locals.
