A 1.5-kilometer-long dirt road from Harulia to Noapara Government Primary School in Bausi Union of Barhatta Upazila of the district has been left unmaintained for a long time. People from these five villages gathered at 11:00 am on Thursday (May 29) to form a human chain demanding the paving of the road. On-site visits revealed that approximately 14,000 to 15,000 people live in Noapara village, from Harulia Bazar. The people of these five villages, including the villages of Harulia, Noapara, Serampur, Laufa, and Chalipura, travel on this road every day to various places including schools, markets, and clinics. However, the locals are suffering greatly due to the poor condition of the unpaved roads.Locals say that even a little rain causes mud to accumulate on the road, creating large potholes and waterlogging. This disrupted the movement of small vehicles, including battery-powered auto-rickshaws, vans, and motorcycles. Ordinary people often become victims of accidents. Assistant teachers of primary schools said that young children travel to school every day. Due to the poor condition of the road, students are often absent. Acting head teacher of No. 72 Harulia Noapara Government Primary School, Popi Sultana, said that due to the bad road and difficulty in transportation, small school-going students are often absent from school. The travel of school-going students and sick patients has become very risky. A visit to the ground shows that the unpaved road has large potholes and mud accumulated at various places. Local drivers said that daily necessities are transported. But as the road becomes unusable, both the cost and time of transporting goods are increasing. Locals participating in the human chain demanded that the road be paved as soon as possible. This is not just a road, but a major support for the lives of school students and people in this area. Therefore, the speakers urged the relevant government authorities to take immediate and effective action. At the end of the human chain, a memorial letter was presented to Upazila Executive Officer Khabirul Ahsan.
