3 held in JCD leader Pial murder case in Joypurhat

Police arrested three people in the murder case of Chhatra Dal leader Biplob Ahmed Pial. Police arrested three people in raids in different areas of Joypurhat and Naogaon districts on Thursday night. The arrested people are Russell (35), son of Shamsuddin Mondal of Dakshin Kochkuri village of Bhadsa union of Sadar upazila, Nasreen (29), wife of Rumel Hossain of Islam Nagar area of Pial’s hometown, and Sraboni Akhter, wife of Sohel Rana. It is learned that the arrested people are related to each other. The deceased Chhatra Dal leader Pial is the senior joint convener of the city Chhatra Dal. He is the son of Bachchu Mia of Islam Nagar area of Joypurhat town. He had a garage called ‘Bike Wash’. According to the case report, a group of miscreants took up position in front of Piyal’s garage in Islam Nagar after 12 noon on May 28. When Piyal came to the garage, the accused abused him. When he protested, they beat him indiscriminately with iron rods. When Piyal tried to run for his life, they chased him and surrounded him at the gate of his own house. There, he was stabbed several times in the stomach, chest and back with a sharp Burmese knife. At that time, some others grabbed Pial’s hands and feet and attacked him. Pial’s intestines were pierced by the knife. Locals rescued him and took him to Joypurhat General Hospital. The doctor on duty declared him dead. The deceased Pial’s mother Iti Begum filed a murder case with Joypurhat Sadar Police Station, accusing 8 people and 5/7 unidentified people as accused. According to police and local sources, Swechchhasebak League leader Anwar Hossain and his associates had built several shops in the Islam Nagar area of the town by leasing government land. They used to earn a living by renting out those shops and running businesses. However, after the fall of the Hasina government on August 5, Chhatra Dal leader Pial took over those. A conflict began between the two sides. Tensions between the two sides increased over various issues, including allegations of indecent behavior with Anwar’s wife. On the night of March 12, an attack was made on Pial on the railway line near his garage. A case was also filed at Santahar GRP police station. It is learned that after receiving treatment, Pial returned to the area and started exerting his old influence. Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nur Alam Siddique told The Daily Morning Glory that `the initial investigation found that the murder was committed to expand dominance in the area. Three people have been arrested and sent to jail in this incident. The court sent them to jail. Further investigation and a drive to arrest the remaining accused are underway.
