Nazrul was the pioneer of national consciousness – MA Akmal Hossain Azad

Md. Shahidul Islam
Rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was not just a poet, he was a pioneer of our national consciousness. His writings served as a beacon of inspiration in our freedom struggle. We remember him with deep respect and gratitude on his 126th birth anniversary. His multifaceted literary works, especially his spirit of equality, humanity, and rebellion, continue to guide us today. By spreading Nazrul’s ideals among the younger generation, we can build a tolerant, just, and progressive society. Mr. MA Akmal Hossain Azad, Member (Senior Secretary) of the Bangladesh Planning Commission, Physical Infrastructure Division, made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the second day of the discussion session of the three-day event organized to celebrate the 126th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The chief guest said, “It is not necessary to mention some facts about the poet Nazrul. For example, it is said that he used to make bread, which is not true.” The poet took a job in a shop for a living and worked there to earn a living in exchange for work. He worked in various places, but he was mainly dedicated to writing poetry and songs. His poems contained messages of rebellion, love, protest against social inequality and exploitation, secularism and humanity. The numerous poems and songs he wrote have found a place in the hearts of people even today. In his speech as the chairman of the discussion meeting on the second day, Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Mufidul Alam said, “Just as Kazi Nazrul Islam was relevant in the past, in the 52 language movement, in the 69 mass uprising, in the 71 great war of independence and in the subsequent period, if we talk about the 24 mass uprisings, the songs, poems, literature and creative works of Kazi Nazrul Islam are always relevant to us at every time.” He is relevant to all religions, to all people. He gave human dignity, gave people a place above all. He was a dreamer of this society. Md. Haider Ali, Joint Head of the Physical Infrastructure Division of the Bangladesh Planning Commission, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Zia Ahmed Sumon, Principal of Trishal Government Nazrul College, Professor Jannatul Ferdous, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Lutfun Nahar spoke as special guests at the discussion meeting. Among others, political and civil society leaders, members of the anti-discrimination movement, government officials, school and college students, cultural enthusiasts, volunteers, people from different walks of life in Trishal, and journalists were present at the event.
