Convicted murderer of Netrakona student sentenced to death

Mukti Rani Barman, a 10th grade student in Barhatta, Netrakona, was stabbed with a sharp weapon (16) for not responding to a love proposal. The court sentenced Md. Kawsar Mia (18), a scoundrel accused of brutally hacking to death, to death by hanging with a rope around his neck and a fine of 50,000 taka. Netrokona District and Sessions Judge Md. Hafizur Rahman delivered the verdict in the presence of the accused on Tuesday around 3 pm. The brief statement of the case states that Mukti Rani Barman, a 10th grade student of Premnagar Chalipura High School, daughter of Akhil Chandra Barman of Prem Nagar village in Bausi union of Barhatta upazila of Netrokona district, was approached by Md. Kawsar, the scoundrel son of Md. Shamsuddin of the same village, while she was on her way to and from school. Kawshar, enraged by Mukti Rani Barman’s failure to respond to his love proposal, was returning home with his classmates and friends after school on May 2, 2023, at around 2:20 pm. As soon as he reached the banks of the Premnagar Kansa River, Kawshar brutally attacked Mukti Rani Barman’s head and neck with a sharp knife in his hand, intending to kill her. At that time, her screams were heard by the people around her. In fact, Kawsar ran away. Mukti Rani was first taken to the Barhatta Upazila Health Complex in a dying condition, but after initial treatment, the doctor working in the emergency department at the hospital referred Mukti Rani to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Mukti Rani Barman was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital by ambulance with the help of relatives, where the doctor on duty examined her and declared her dead. In this incident, his father Nikhil Chandra Barman filed a murder case with Barhatta Police Station on May 3, making the accused scoundrel Kawsar the sole accused. The police arrested the accused scoundrel, Kawsar, from the forest near his house on the same day of the incident. After the police investigation, they filed a chargesheet in court against the accused scoundrel, Kawchar. The learned judge, after accepting the necessary documents presented in the court and the testimony of the witnesses, gave the above verdict as the charges against the accused Jawchar were proven beyond doubt. The case was handled by learned Public Prosecutor Advocate Abul Hashem for the state, and Advocate Deluaara Begum for the accused. The plaintiff expressed satisfaction with the verdict and requested that the verdict be implemented quickly.
