Barhatta Upazila BNP conference president Mostaq and general secretary Kamal

After 11 long years, the biennial conference of Barhatta Upazila BNP has been organized. Mostaq Ahmed was elected as the president and Ashiq Ahmed Kamal was elected as the general secretary by direct vote of the councilors at the conference held at the Upazila Autotorium cum Multipurpose Hall on Sunday, May 25. Party News The last Barhatta Upazila BNP conference was held in 2014. When the term of that committee expired, a convening committee was formed in 2019. Since 2019, the activities of the Upazila BNP have been carried out through the convening committee. The last conference of Barhatta Upazila BNP was scheduled to be held in 2022. But shortly before the conference was to take place, some leaders and activists of the Upazila Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League, led by then Upazila Chairman Mainul Haque Kashem and former Sahta Union Chairman Mizanur Rahman Chanchal, set fire to the BNP conference stage. District BNP convener Md. Anwarul Haque inaugurated the conference at around 12 noon. BNP National Executive Committee Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel was the chief guest at the conference, while BNP Central Committee Mymensingh Division Organizing Secretary Shariful Alam was the keynote speaker. The special guests were Advocate Shah Warez Ali Mamun, Co-Organizing Secretary of the Mymensingh Division of the National Executive Committee, Abu Wahab Akand, Co-Secretary for Religious Affairs of the National Executive Committee, Abdul Bari Danny, and Honorary Member of the District BNP, Imran Talukder. The special speaker was District BNP Member Secretary and Central Committee Member Md. Rafiqul Islam Hilali. In the first session, chaired by former Upazila Committee convener Mostaq Ahmed, Mymensingh Division’s Joint Organizing Secretary Abu Wahab Akand, among others, spoke. In the second phase of the council session in the afternoon, elections for the posts of president and general secretary were held. Mostaq Ahmed, Manik Azad, freedom fighter Rahmat Ali Talukder and Rashid Alam Talukder contested for the post of president. Three others, including Ashiq Ahmed Kamal, contested for the post of general secretary. Out of 497 voters from 7 unions, 485 exercised their right to vote. Mostaq Ahmed was elected president with 160 votes, carrying the chair symbol. And Ashiq Ahmed Kamal was elected general secretary with 191 votes for the football symbol. Journalists and leaders of socio-cultural organizations were present at the conference.
