Parents die while looking for a bride for their son

A husband and wife were killed in a head-on collision between a covered van and a battery-powered autorickshaw in Purbadhala Upazila of Netrakona on their way home after looking for a bride for their son.
Two more people were injured in the incident.
The accident occurred at around 7 pm on Saturday (24) in the Pabai Sheikhpara area of the Shyamganj-Birisiri regional highway.
The deceased are Nizam Uddin (55), son of the deceased Azizul Haque, a resident of Chochaura village in the upazila’s Sadar Union, and his wife Rokeya Akhter (45). Among the injured are Nizam Uddin’s daughter Sumaiya and brother-in-law Nayeb Ali (50).
According to local sources, Nizam Uddin himself drove an autorickshaw to Fazilpur Bazar to look for a bride with his wife, daughter Sumaiya and brother-in-law.
On the way back from there, their autorickshaw collided head-on with a covered van of Pran Company coming from the opposite direction. The husband and wife died on the spot.
The autorickshaw was twisted in the accident.
The injured Sumaiya and her uncle have been rescued and admitted to the Upazila Health Complex.
Purbadhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Nurul Alam said that the covered van has been seized.
The driver and assistant have been taken into police custody.
An investigation is underway into the incident and legal action will be taken.
