SM Humayun Kabir, Cox’s Bazar
BNP’s Central Fisheries Secretary and former MP Lutfur Rahman Kajal said that BNP is a liberal democratic political party, BNP has been fighting for democracy and voting for a long time. We need to convince everyone that BNP is a democratic and supreme party by electing the right leader. He said Sheikh Mujibur Rahman fought for democracy throughout his life. But after 3 and a half years of coming to power, he killed democracy by strangling it and established Baksal, Baksal means one leader, one country, He also said that martyred President Ziaur Rahman used to say that the people are the source of all power. After coming to power, Shaheed Zia introduced multi-party democracy, a free market economy, and launched labor markets abroad. The autocratic ruler Ershad held onto state power for 9 years through vote-rigging. After a long movement in the name of democracy under the uncompromising leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia, the BNP came to power through the people’s vote. He said that whenever there is a fair and impartial election in this country, the BNP comes to power with the people’s votes. He also said that the Awami League is a party harmful to the democracy of this country. Under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League, people’s voting rights have been taken away for 17 years. According to newspaper reports, thousands of crores of taka have been smuggled abroad. The BNP high command has attacked and filed cases against ward leaders and activists, but despite that, the leaders and activists have not backed down from the democratic movement. “The unity that we have built through the movement over the past 15 years should not be destroyed by anyone’s mistakes or false accusations.” Let’s not undermine the entire struggle by belittling one person. He made these remarks while addressing the chief guest at the biennial conference of Jalalabad Union BNP in Eidgaon Upazila on Friday, May 23.
