Blackmailed by editing pictures , embezzled gold worth 31 lakh taka

Accused was arrested along with the recovery of 16 (sixteen) Bhori gold ornaments and cash for the sale of gold ornaments seized during the Kotwali Thana Police raid of CMP.

According to police sources. The complainant is Nafisa Binte Alam (18), a class 11 student of Arpanacharan Girls School and College in Chittagong city. About two and a half months ago, Nafisa met the accused Shafayet Ullah Akash (19) through a WhatsApp group. Due to that, the accused cleverly took some photos from Nafisa.
Then, he blackmailed Nafisa by saying that he would make the photos offensive and obscene and spread them through various online and social media and asked her to bring him two lakh taka.
When Nafisa expressed her inability to pay the money, the accused asked Nafisa to bring gold ornaments from her house. Nafisa became frightened and terrified due to the accused’s blackmail.
According to her, on March 5 this year at approximately 12.30 pm, Nafisa gave her mother’s gold ornaments to the accused Shafayet on the road in front of Safa Arquette Community Center next to Saberia Didar Market under Kotwali Police Station.
Thus, on different dates and times, without the knowledge of anyone in the house, Nafisa gave four pairs of gold bangles weighing 10 bohri, 3 gold neck chains weighing 4 bohri, 6 hand rings weighing 1 bohri, 2 necklaces and 2 pairs of earrings weighing 4 bohri, a total of 21 bohri worth of gold ornaments to the accused Shafayet Ullah.

The total estimated value of which was 31,50,000/-(thirty one lakh fifty thousand) taka. After this, the accused Shafayet Ullah  asked Nafisa to bring another two lakh taka.

Otherwise, Nafisa threatened to spread the offensive and obscene pictures edited by her online and through social media.
Thinking about the honor and dignity of her family, Nafisa paid the accused Tk 30,000/- (thirty thousand) in the first installment on the road in front of KFC’s at Cheragi Pahar intersection under Kotwali Police Station on April 15th at approximately 03.30 pm and thus in several installments a total of Tk 1,60,000/- (one lakh sixty thousand) in several installments.

Safayet had been threatening Nafisa for a long time by saying that he would edit her pictures and spread them online and through social media.

Finally, in view of the complainant’s allegations of embezzling cash and gold ornaments from Nafisa through fraud, on May 22, a special team of Kotwali Police Station conducted a raid in Baklia, Chandgaon and Chawkbazar police stations of Chittagong city and arrested the accused directly involved in the incident 1) Shafayet Ullah Akash (19), father-Mujibur Rahman, mother-Nasimha Akhter, Sang-Deodighi, Uttar Mardasa, Sikder Bari, Thana-Satkania, District-Chittagong, currently- Rahattarpul, Chanda Pukur Par, Rahman Mansion, 3rd floor, Thana-Bakaliya, District-Chittagong at 10:30 pm on the same day from in front of Bali Arcade Shopping Mall under Chawkbazar Police Station.

The police recovered two Press Identity cards from the accused, one “Daily Natun Din” and the other “Baejid songbad”. Police say that these are being used as a means of fraud by making fake cards.

During interrogation of the accused and according to the information provided by him, 16 bhori (sixteen) gold ornaments of embezzled gold and cash of Tk 5,00,000/- (five lakhs) were recovered and seized.

In view of the complaint of the complainant in the above incident, Kotwali Police Station Case No. 32, dated 23/05/2025 under Section 8(2)/8(3)/8(5)(a) of the Pornography Control Act 2012 and 406/420 of the Penal Code 1860 was registered.
The accused is being handed over to the learned court through police custody as per the rules, the police said.
