On the spot, it was seen that Bari-4 sesame is being cultivated on more than 100 hectares of uncultivated land in the char area of Baniapara Sultanpur village of Kaya union in Kumarkhali upazila this season.
Hundreds of bighas of land have been covered in greenery. White flowers and fruits have also started coming out on the trees. Talking to farmers in the area, it was learned that with the advice and assistance of Upazila Agriculture Officer, Agronomist Md. Raisul Islam, the cultivation of Bari-4 sesame has started for the first time this year in this uncultivated char. He is hopeful of getting a good yield.
Upazila Agriculture Officer, Agriculturist Md. Raisul Islam said that this year, under the supervision of Kumarkhali Upazila Agricultural Extension Department, Bari-4 sesame has been cultivated on more than 100 hectares of uncultivated land in the Charanchal area of Sultanpur village, Baniapara, Kaya Union, and sesame has been cultivated on 1915 hectares of land in the upazila. Due to the favorable weather, there was no attack of insects in the fields, and due to government incentives, timely supply of high-quality seeds and necessary fertilizers to farmers, we hope that there will be a bumper sesame yield. This sesame oil with medicinal properties is incomparable in preventing heart disease, skin diseases and hair care. We are working towards the goal that the government has taken to reduce the import dependence of edible oil. As sesame cultivation is profitable, farmers in the upazila are leaning towards sesame cultivation day by day. As a result, on the one hand, it will work to deal with the shortage of oil, and on the other hand, the farmers will become self-reliant.
