The accident occurred around 11 pm on Friday. The injured were later rescued and treated at the hospital.

The injured workers are Md. Arman (30), Md. Hridoy (20), Md. Rakib (19), Md. Sohel (26) and Roni Howlader (27).

Curator of the Chittagong Zoo said that development work was going on at the zoo. Since there were visitors at the zoo during the day, the contractor had to do the work on Friday night. Several workers were working on a scaffolding on Friday night. At that time, when a bamboo pole of the scaffolding moved, one worker was injured first. His screams frightened the others. Then we called the fire service and emergency ambulance. The fire service came and rescued five people and took them to the hospital. One of the workers had two stitches on his leg. Others were also discharged from the hospital after undergoing normal treatment after X-rays.

He said, “No wall collapsed during the incident. However, after the incident, we considered it risky and demolished some pillars with the welding work ourselves with a crane.”

Khalilur Rahman, Senior Station Officer of the Fire Service’s Agrabad Station, said, “Five construction workers were injured when a wall and gate under construction at the Chittagong Zoo collapsed on Friday night. The workers were taken to the hospital. He said the initial damage was about 1 million taka.
