Dulal Mia, Sunamganj
World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day was celebrated in Sunamganj with various events. The day began on Thursday, May 8 at 9:00 AM with a flag hoisting ceremony at the Red Crescent office located in Kalibari.

At 9:30 AM, a colorful rally was held with participation from students of different educational institutions, Youth Red Crescent members, lifetime Red Crescent members, and Sunamganj Unit officials. The rally was led by the President of the Sunamganj Red Crescent Unit and Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj, Dr. Mohammad Elias Mia. The rally paraded through the main streets of the town and concluded in front of the Shaheed Muktijoddha Jagatjyoti Public Library.

An ensuing discussion session was held at the library auditorium, presided over by Vice- President of the Sunamganj Red Crescent Unit  Nurul Islam Saju. The chief guest Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Elias Mia, delivered a speech highlighting the significance and importance of the day. He also announced the allocation of 15 decimals of land for the construction of a permanent office for the Sunamganj Red Crescent Unit.

The session was jointly moderated by Red Crescent Sunamganj Unit General Secretary Advocate Taiyabur Rahman Babul and lifetime member Shahjahan Alam Siddiqi.

Special guests who spoke at the event included Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Zakir Hossain, Public Prosecutor Advocate Mallik Moinuddin Sohel, Public Prosecutor (Women and Children Tribunal) Advocate Shamsur Rahman, Executive Committee members of the Sunamganj Red Crescent Unit Dr. Syed Monawar Ali and Momtazul Hasan Abed.

Others who addressed the gathering included Lecturer Tanvir Ahmed Akhanji from Sunamganj Government College and Dutch-Bangla Bank officer Ashraf Hossain Liton.

Also present at the event were executive members of the Red Crescent Sunamganj Unit Raihana Manzur Chowdhury, Mahbubur Rahman Pir, Naeem Ahmed Antar, Unit Level Officer Kanika Talukder, along with lifetime members, students from various institutions, Youth Red Crescent members, and prominent local citizens.

At the end of the discussion session, prizes were distributed among the winners of a general knowledge competition held in observance of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
