A protest rally and counter-meeting was organized today by the National Civic Party demanding a boycott of the Awami League and the Facebook government and calling for the political ban on the party. Led by the organizer Md. Faroz Alamgir, the rally started from Abul Kasme Maidan and ended at Pachur More via Batar More. Later, a brief counter-meeting was organized at Sakhon.
The speakers at the gathering said, “In the past 15 years, the Awami League government has been using state power to oppress the general public through disappearances, murders, extrajudicial killings of children and political repression. They are implementing a fascist regime by taking away the people’s right to vote, taking away freedom of expression and suppressing dissenting voices.”
The speakers further said, “This autocratic government should be brought down to international standards and the Awami League should be declared politically neutral.”
Speaking at the gathering were National Citizen Party Jolo Organizer Omar Ali Babu, Md. Ashraful Islam, Representative of the Students’ Movement Against Disabilities Md. Borhan Udni, Upazlo Organizers: Principal Sahbe Ali, Lecturer Holol Udni, Lecturer Salemi and Panchbibi Upazila Organizer Atkiur Rahman Atki.
The speakers called on the citizens of Dussehra to come out on the streets unitedly and join the movement to restore democracy and establish the rights of the people.
