A collision has occurred between a passenger cruise ship Bay One and an oil tanker in the Karnaphuli River. The collision occurred yesterday (Friday) evening with an oil tanker named Bashundhara Oil and Gas-1, which was standing in the Karnaphuli Channel, at approximately 5 pm. After the collision, the Bay One ship was in a lot of danger, and one of the anchors of the oil tanker was torn and fell into the river. A crew member who was on the Bay One at the time, who did not want to be named, said that after the collision, he was very scared and even cried at one point. On Saturday, a visit to the Bay One ship, which was anchored at the Naval Jetty in Chittagong, showed that there were large black cracks on one side of the ship. An iron pillar on the side of the ship’s second deck had buckled, and the upper part of the roof had broken in several places right next to it. It was learned that before the collision, the MV Bay One was traveling with a few passengers in the outer part of Karnaphuli. Due to low tide, the ship got stuck in shallow water. In this situation, it collided with the Bashundhara Oil and Gas-01 and the ship was in a dangerous situation. Later, with the help of several rescue teams from the port, the ship was brought to the pier safely.
Speaking to an employee of Bay One, it was learned that the doctors had originally planned a program for the day. When a small child fell ill while the ship was returning, Bay One’s speed was reduced to send him to a speedboat. At this time, the passenger ship Bay One hit the body of Bashundhara’s oil tanker standing at the mouth of the channel and hit it. The ship got stuck on rocks and sand at a place near Anwara. Later, another ship owned by Karnaphuli Shipbuilders, St. Martin Cruise, was brought to the pier without passengers.
When speaking to the ship’s Chief Operating Officer, Mizan, about this, Morning Glory said that there was no major damage after the collision.
