The Prime Minister gave Bangamata Medal

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina awarded Bangmata Begum Fazilatun Necha Mujib Padak-2023 to four distinguished women and the national women’s football team.

Today (August 8) is the 93rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s wife Bangmata Begum Sheikh Fazilatun Necha Mujib. On this occasion, this medal distribution ceremony was organized.

The medal is awarded annually to a maximum of five women in recognition of their contribution in eight fields to commemorate the contribution of Banga Mata. The National Women’s Football Team and four distinguished women have been selected for this year’s medal by the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the country’s politics, education, culture, sports and research.

The National Women’s Football Team bagged the medal this year as they were the undefeated champions in SAFF Football 2022. Apart from this, the four distinguished women who have received this year’s medal are – Advocate in politics Sahara Khatun (posthumous); Nasima Zaman Bobby and Anima Mukti Gomez in education, culture and sports and research Dr. Senjuti Saha (Molecular Biologist).

State Minister for Women and Child Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira presided over the event. Najma Mobarek, secretary of the ministry, gave a welcome speech.

Professor Tanya Haque of the Department of Women and Gender Studies of Dhaka University presented the main article based on the life and work of Bangmata. Chairman of the National Women’s Organization Begum Chemon Ara Tayyab participated in the discussion.

National women’s football team captain Sabina Khatun spoke on behalf of the awardees. An audio-visual documentary on the life and work of Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nesha Mujib was screened at the beginning of the program.

The prime minister also inaugurated the financial donation and sewing machine distribution program on the occasion. Among 4,500 poor women across the country, sewing machines and 2,000 rupees each were provided through mobile banking to 3,000 poor women.
