Teachers have stopped teaching in several educational institutions (including MPOs) in Gaibandha demanding the nationalization of secondary education in the country. In addition, locks have been hung in the classrooms of some schools. The agitators are observing the strike like this.

On Tuesday (July 18) at around 11 am on the call of the Bangladesh Teachers’ Association, Ghagoya MB High School in Gaibandha Sadar was seen – pictures of the suspension of teaching. Meanwhile, when the teachers stopped working in the institution, the students came back home to study. A similar scenario is seen in Sadullapur Multipurpose Pilot Model High School. Here the teachers carried out the program by hanging the lock in the class room.

It is known that teachers-employees have continued their sit-in program at the National Press Club of Dhaka for several days demanding the nationalization of secondary education in the country on the call of the Bangladesh Teachers’ Association. As a part of this, the same program is being conducted in several secondary education institutions in different upazilas of Gaibandha district. Besides, many teachers are participating in Dhaka’s program by keeping classes closed. The agitating teachers say that they will continue this program until their demands are met.

Siam Mia, a student of class 10, said, like every day, I came to school today and saw all the teachers standing and sitting together. The class room is locked. Having to return home as there is no teaching.

Tulshighat Kashinathpur High School Headmaster Asaduzzaman said, like government schools, our MPO-affiliated secondary schools are moving forward in improving education. Therefore, salary and allowances are not desirable. I also want all secondary schools in the country to be govt.
