A young man named Mahadi Hasan (25) has been arrested by the police in connection with the rape of a girl in Dhanmondi of the capital. He was arrested from Barisal last Thursday night. Police said, today Friday, he gave a confessional statement in the court.

Confirming the arrest of Mahadi Hassan, Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Parvez Islam said that Mahadi escaped after raping a young woman in Dhanmondi last Monday. The next day, the girl’s father filed a rape case against an unknown person at the Dhanmondi police station. Later, the police identified Mahadi’s location with the help of CCTV footage and information technology.

OC Parvez Islam said, last night a team of Dhanmondi police station arrested Mahadi from a house on Jordan Road in Barisal city and brought him to Dhaka. Today, when Mahadi was arrested and sent to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court, he agreed to give a statement. The court ordered to take his statement and send him to jail. Dhanmondi police station said that after the arrest, Mahadi told the police officers that his uncle’s house is in Kalyanpur of the capital. He came from Barisal and lived there. Wandered around Dhanmondi Lake and its surroundings. He has a team in this area. They used to develop friendship with various women who came to Dhanmondi Lake.

Police said that on July 3, the victim came out of the house and came to Dhanmondi Lake. At this time, Mahadi lured him into a speech trap and told him to eat at a restaurant on the roof of a seven-storey building in Dhanmondi. After going there, Mahadi raped the girl and ran away.
