The old couple moves rotten smelly water, the road is blocked!

In Sadar Upazila of Gaibandha, an influential family has been accused of blocking the movement of an elderly couple along with blocking the road. As there is no alternative way out of the house, the couple has been traveling through rotten smelly water for almost three months.

The afflicted couple are elderly Kaykobad Mohammad Manjurul Haque and Bedna Begum, residents of Dhanghara area of Sadar Upazila. The land owner, Nurul Islam Sarkar, closed their road about three months ago. The victim Manjurul Islam filed a written complaint at the Sadar police station but did not get any remedy.

After investigation, it is known that Manjurul Haque and Bedna Begum bought the land from Nurul Islam government in 2015. He has been living in that land for about six years. At the time of sale of land, the owner of the land gives access to his land. The couple has been traveling through that road for six years. Three months ago, land owner Nurul Islam and his two sons blocked the road. Since then Kaykobad and his wife Bedna Begum have been living a non-human life. This old couple has to travel through knee-deep water.

On Thursday (July 6) at noon, it can be seen on the ground that the Manjurul Islam couple is blocked as there is no alternative way for them to travel. They are living in endless suffering. Having to wade through knee-deep water.

Elderly Bedna Begum said, “It is very difficult to travel because the road is closed. I am living an inhumane life with a sick husband. To take market and medicines, one has to move through that rotten water repeatedly during the day.

Manjurul Haque said, “I bought the land in 2015 and am living there. I am in extreme trouble because the road is suddenly closed. Even after complaining to the police station, there was no solution.

Roman Sarkar, son of land owner Nurul Islam, denied the road closure and said, “We did not close the road.” Road closed due to rain water. If the water dries up, there will be no problem in their journey.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Masudur Rahman told CNBangladesh that they have received a complaint in this regard. Necessary action will be taken after investigation.
