A large quantity of stone was seized in Jaintapur

Jaintapur upazila administration has conducted an operation against illegal stone quarrying in Jaintapur causing environmental damage. A syndicate group has been extracting these stones illegally at night in various hilly areas of the upazila for several days. Although fines were collected by conducting several raids on behalf of the administration, this syndicate circle became active again. Following this, the upazila administration conducted an operation on the basis of secret information in the adjoining Kharampur area adjacent to the closed Sreepur Pathar Quarry under the Jaintapur Union of the upazila.

Yesterday Wednesday (May 10) at 11 am, under the leadership of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Al-Bashirul Islam, the administration found the fact of illegal stone quarrying by cutting the hills and inspecting various spots on the ground in the Kharampur area of Sreepur. Upazila Executive Officer was accompanied by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Bhoomi) Ripamani Devi, Police team led by Jaintapur Model Police Station Deputy Inspector Shafiqul Islam and Sripur BGB Camp Commander and other members of BGB cooperated during the operation.

In this regard, Jaintapur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Bhoomi) Ripamani Devi said, following a complaint, this operation was conducted today. We have witnessed this from the spot and the administration has always had zero tolerance against illegal stone quarrying and will continue to do so in the future. He also said that the administration will not sacrifice any work that destroys the environment.

In this regard Jaintapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Al-Bashirul Islam said, Sreepur Kharampur area is surrounded by stones and little by little stones are being lifted and stored in different spots. We conducted a raid on April 11 last month and seized a large quantity of stones which were sold at auction. The stones seized here have been brought to the upazila by carrying out an operation today. Legal action will be taken later. He urged everyone not to get involved in illegal hill cutting and stone quarrying. He also called on the administration to always cooperate in preventing such illegal activities. During this time, the seized stones were transported by 14 DI mini trucks and brought to the Upazila Parishad premises.
