The 250-bed hospital of Gaibandha district headquarters is plagued with various problems. The violence of brokers has increased. There are irregularities, corruption and drug shortages. There is no ICU in this hospital of 2.7 million towns. Heart patients are referred. The food provided is of poor quality. If you do not pay a large amount of money, the body does not come out of the morgue!

Manpower shortage including modern equipment, doctors, nurses has been going on for a long time. As a result, 27 lakh people are deprived of medical facilities. Common people protested in Gaibandha to prevent corruption and irregularities in the hospital.

Manjurul Islam Mithu, the leader of Gaibandha Nagorika Sangam Parishad, said that money has to be counted minute by minute in the emergency department. For sewing, you have to buy yarn for 5-7 hundred rupees. If you don’t pay big money, you won’t be plastered. Wherever you go, brokers will do it all. After the autopsy in the morgue, if the dom and bearers are not paid in cash, the dead body does not come out even if it is decomposed.

There is a shortage of specialist doctors in this hospital. Because of that, the patient was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital even if he came with a slight disease. There is no ICU unit in the hospital. As a result, when a heart patient comes, he either dies, or dies on the way to Rangpur. Although the hospital has two ventilator machines for a long time, they are not being operated due to lack of specialist doctors. As a result valuable machines are being damaged and patients are not receiving services.

Various complaints of hospitalized patients. There is no electric light. Only a few bulbs are lit throughout the patient wards of the entire hospital. As a result, most of the hospital wards are plunged into darkness. And if the power goes out, the hospital becomes a haunted area. Although the hospital has its own generator, it is not used.

Long-standing complaints about food quality. Not good at all. Poor quality bread, bananas, eggs, milk, rice and curry were given to the patients. The state of milk is like white water. And if you see eggs and bananas, you will think that they have been brought from somewhere for free. No patient eats hospital food unless he is unwell.

CPB central leader Mihir Ghosh said that many patients are eating in the hospital by buying food from outside with their relatives. The hospital is unsanitary and unsanitary. Even if there is a pile of dirt around them, they don’t see it. Poor condition of water and sewage system. Water supply is provided in the hospital premises for hand washing. It is now a house of unclean water. Relatives of the patients collected everything from raw clothes to food water in that house without getting water anywhere.

Dr. RMO of the hospital. Vishveshwar Chandra Burman said that the hospital has announced 250 beds but the manpower has not been increased. There is supposed to be 42 doctors but it is being continued with only 18 doctors. He said that the posts of various doctors including Medicine, ENT, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Skin and Sexual Diseases, Surgery are vacant. Although there are two x-ray machines, one is broken and the other is not working due to lack of radiologists. Gaibandha Municipality has provided an ECG machine. But as there is no permanent manpower to run it, patients sometimes have to bring ECG machines from outside clinics to the hospital for examination.

Dr. RMO Vishveshwar Chandra Burman said that there are 15 cleaners but only four are working. The hospital is supposed to have 187 employees in various positions; But currently only 65 people are working. As a result administrative and other official functions are not done properly.

When asked about the allegation that the body is not taken out of the morgue if money is not paid, he said, “I am not aware of the matter.” Will be searched from now on. Strict action will be taken if the complaint is proved in the investigation.

Hospital supervisor Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman told CNBangladesh that the medical system of the hospital has been kept running amid various difficulties including manpower shortage. Limited crisis doctors are trying their best to serve patients.
