Jubo League workers attack Jamuna TV journalist

Jubo League activists attacked Jamuna Television reporter Aminul Islam in front of Sunamganj Sadar Upazila Chairman and Jubo League convener Khairul Huda Chapal for publishing news in Sunamganj. Journalist Aminul Islam was hit hard on the chest and back of the head by Jubo League Sadar Upazila branch organizing secretary Sajib and his companions. Journalist Aminul Islam was treated at Sunamganj Sadar Hospital with serious injuries due to chest or side injuries. Meanwhile, Jubo League convener Khairul Huda Chapal arrived at the hospital. Chapal took the injured Aminul from the emergency department of the hospital in his own car with the help of supporters.

Talking to journalist Aminul Islam, it is known that on Thursday morning, the investigation team went there on the report made by Jamuna Television about the irregularities in the construction of the Prime Minister’s gift house to be built in Sadar Upazila’s Lalpur area. When Islam was requested to assist in the investigation, he went to the project area in Lalpur at 10 in the morning, in the presence of the investigation team, Jubo League President Chapal expressed his anger at the report of journalist Aminul Islam and made ugly comments against him. At that time, if Aminul protested, Chapal threatened him in front of everyone that he would leave the city. Later the investigation committee tried to normalize the situation. At that time, when Chapal informed the Chhatra League and Jubo League workers of his own circle, the leaders and workers started gathering there on motorcycles in the presence of the investigation team.

Chhatra League president Dipankar Kanti Desa and Jubo League workers also reached the spot and tried to harass journalist Aminul Islam. At around 12 noon, the investigation team left the project area after seeing the heated situation. At that time Chapal asked Aminul to get in the car saying that he would deliver it in his own car. The head of the investigation team himself requested Chapal to ensure Aminul’s safety.

Meanwhile, Jubo League and Chhatra League leaders and activists started coming towards the city from the project area in front and behind Chopal’s car.
Chopal stopped the car in front of the main gate of Upazila Parishad in Mallikpur area of the city and dropped journalist Aminul Islam from the car. Meanwhile, youths on motorcycles surrounded Aminul and started hitting him. Meanwhile Jubo League President Chapal Drat came and sent him to the hospital on a motorcycle.

Journalist Aminul Islam said that he was attacked for publishing the news about the irregularities in the house of the shelter project as a gift of the Prime Minister, said that the Jubo League leader Sajib and his companions beat me up because of the news about the irregularities in the work of the shelter project. I am sure that I was attacked because of the publication of this news.

Meanwhile, Sunamganj Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Zahidul Islam Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Ikhtiyar Uddin Chowdhury and other police officers rushed to the hospital.

Convener of Sunamganj District Jubo League and Sadar Upazila Chairman Khairul Huda Chapal told CNBangladesh that he is not involved in the incident. I arranged to send him to the hospital immediately after the incident. At first he said he did not know the attacker. When asked if the attacker Sajib is your follower, the organizing secretary of Sadar Upazila of Jubo League, he later admitted. When asked whether he can avoid the responsibility as the district convener of Jubo League, he said that he took responsibility that he will be handed over to the police if there is a case.
