Md Abu Sayed, Sreepur (Gazipur)
In a span of 10 days in Gazipur, four houses of two businessmen, including a senior police officer and a retired teacher, were robbed in two villages of a union. The robbers took the people of every house hostage at gunpoint and looted cash, gold ornaments and valuables. This information was obtained by talking to the family members of the robbery victims. Jahangir Khandkar, the elder brother of robbery victim Alamgir Khandkar, said that the robbers threatened to kill his mother Jahanara Begum and child Arki Khandkar by putting a knife to their necks and threatening to slaughter them. Later, they looted Tk 1 lakh 30 thousand in cash, 8 bags of gold ornaments and valuable goods from the wardrobe. The robbers stayed for 10 to 12 minutes and left. At that time, the owner of the house hit Alamgir Khandkar on the right arm with a rod for preventing the robbery. A robbery took place at the house of police officer MA Jalil of Beltali village in the same village on Saturday. He is working as Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police (Additional DIG) Sylhet Range. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur police station Md Moniruzzaman said that these incidents are not robbery in the language of the law. This is banditry. Police operations are on to nab the robbers. Hopefully we will be able to recover the goods and arrest the robbers very soon.
