A lawyer named Rafiqul Islam (65) was killed when a passenger bus overturned in Sundarganj, Gaibandha. At least 15 passengers were injured in the incident. The injured were rescued and sent to local hospitals including Rangpur Medical College. The injured were not immediately identified.

The accident took place in Jamal Hatnon area of Sundarganj-Rangpur road in Bamondanga union of the upazila on Friday (January 20) morning.

The deceased bus passenger is the son of deceased Naya Mia of Dhaniar Kura village in Sarbananda Union of Rafiqul Upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarkar Iftekharul Mokaddem of Sundarganj police station confirmed this information.

He said that a passenger bus lost control and overturned on the road while passing the covered van. One died on the spot. Police and fire service members rescued the injured and sent them to the hospital.

Eyewitnesses said that a passenger bus left Sundarganj for Rangpur in the morning. When the bus reached a place called Jamal Hat in Bamondanga Union, it lost control and overturned on the side of the road while passing a covered van of a pharmaceutical company from Rangpur. Bus passenger Rafiqul Islam was killed on the spot. At this time, 15 other passengers of the bus were injured.
