People’s lives are miserable due to rise in electricity prices: Tuku
Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, a member of the BNP Standing Committee claimed that although the life of the common man is miserable due to the increase in the price of electricity, some corrupt people are benefiting.
He made this claim while talking to reporters at his residence in Asadgate on Sunday afternoon.
Tuku said that the government has taken an anti-people decision by increasing the price of electricity. I request the government to keep the price of electricity at a bearable level considering the suffering of the people.
He said, during BNP era, if you recharge 100 taka in prepaid meter, electricity is given at 110 taka and now if you recharge 100 taka, electricity is given at 70 taka. In the name of prepaid meters and quick rentals, money has been taken from people’s pockets and created suffering.
Commenting that the increase in electricity prices is an ax attack on the people, the BNP leader said that the government is disrupting public life by increasing the price of goods without stopping corruption and looting. To get rid of it, this dictatorial government should be overthrown through a united movement regardless of party opinion.
