Project implementation officer Jahan in Habiganj corruption case

The project implementation officer of Habiganj Sadar Upazila, Mohammad Jahan, has been sent to jail in a corruption case. Yesterday Thursday (January 12) at noon, the learned session judge of Habiganj. Hasanul Islam’s senior special judge surrendered to the court and asked for bail, but the judge of the court refused to grant him bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
Sirajul Haque Chowdhury, a veteran PP freedom fighter, handled the case on behalf of the state.
According to court sources, Khanjahan was previously a project implementation officer of Lakhai Upazila, former member of Bamoi Union. Iqbal filed a complaint against 5 people including the project implementation officer in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
It is mentioned in the complaint that in 2016-17 and 2017-18 financial years, three Kabikha projects have embezzled Tk 4 lakh 77 thousand by forging the signature of the project president without doing any work. Following the complaint, the ACC started an investigation. Later on 30 November 2021 ACC Deputy Director Shoaib Hossain filed a case at Lakhai Police Station as the plaintiff. Later, ACC Deputy Director Ershad Mia filed a charge sheet against 5 people on November 17 last year.
Accused number two in the case, Project Implementation Officer Mohammad Jahan, surrendered to the Senior Special Judge Court yesterday and sought bail after obtaining anticipatory bail from the High Court. At that time, the learned judge refused his bail after a long hearing. At the same time, he ordered the issuance of arrest warrants against the other four accused.
Former project implementation officer of Lakhai upazila Mohammad Jahan, former chairman of Bamoi Union Parishad No. 3 Enamul Haque Mamun, former deputy assistant engineer of Lakhai upazila project implementation office Jahangir Alam, former office assistant cum computer Mudraksharik Md. Golam Kibria and former office assistant Habibur Rahman have been held responsible.
