Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that efforts are being made to overcome the problem by reviewing the complaint of slow speed in receiving votes in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in Rangpur City Corporation (CEC) elections.

He said this at the end of the post-election exchange meeting of Rangpur City Corporation at the Agargaon election building in the capital on Wednesday. Returning officers, observers, journalists and related officers were present in the meeting.

On December 27, for the first time in Rasik elections, voting was done in EVMs in all centers. In that election, various complaints have been raised including problems in matching fingerprints in EVMs, slow speed in taking votes, delay in ending the polls.

Regarding these allegations, the CEC said that the recent election held in Rangpur City Corporation was fair, fair and participatory. But some crisis has been mentioned. He said, ‘I will review them and try to overcome the crises in the future. At the same time, I am telling you that in other elections, we did not find these problems. Some of the issues you mentioned seem reasonable. Whatever feedback was needed, we took it. We will discuss the feedback among ourselves. We will try to overcome as much as possible.

Highlighting the experience of the polling day, CEC said, “Some complaints have been received due to the mass media. Slow polling was a major complaint. Also, in some cases the fingerprints did not match. But voting is being delayed, we have never received this complaint before. Our technical experts, who were media workers, have highlighted the fact. But there has been a delay.

He said, “Fingerprints did not match, this incident did not happen much.” But there was a delay. Delay can be due to many reasons. We will think about it deeply. I will try to determine the exact cause of this by conducting experiments. CEC commented that it has made the commission very worried.

EC wants transparent, participatory, competitive elections. CEC said that ‘feedback’ has been taken from those concerned.
