Journalist stabbed to death in Brahmanbaria
A journalist named Ashiqur Rahman Ashiq (27) was stabbed to death by miscreants due to an earlier dispute in Brahmanbaria. The incident took place in front of the leisure park of the city on Monday at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. Worked as District Representative of Daily Monitoring. Moreover, Ashiq was a worker of a human service organization named Batighar.
Ashiqur Rahman is the son of Ashraf Uddin of Medda village of Brahmanbaria municipality. Before entering the journalism profession, Ashiq used to do Chhatra League politics.
Engineer Azhar Uddin, who witnessed the stabbing incident, said, “There was a meeting of a humanitarian organization called Batighar at 3:30 pm on Monday at Aqash Faruqi Park in the district city. Ashiq, a member of the organization, was also present in it. At the end of the meeting, five-six youths surrounded the auto-rickshaw and stabbed Ashiq in the chest and ran away. As they escaped, some members of the organization chased them, stabbing them. The stabbing boy’s name is Raihan. At one stage of running after them, Ashiq fell unconscious on the road. Later he was rescued and taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
In this regard, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Mozammel Hossain Reza said, “I went to the hospital after hearing the incident of murder.” After investigation, the killer will be brought under the law quickly. Ashiq’s body has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem.
After hearing the news of Ashiq’s death, Chhatra League leaders and activists gathered at Brahmanbaria General Hospital. His friend Sagar, who was with Ashik, was crying.
Talking to several people including Sagar, they said that Raihan, the killer, had a dispute with Ashik a few days ago over giving blood to a patient. As a result, Raihan premeditatedly stabbed Ashiq in the chest and killed him.
