Cow thief died in the mob thrashing
A thief named Habizar Rahman (45) was caught while stealing a cow from a farmer’s house in Sadullapur of Gaibandha and died after being beaten up by the locals.
The incident took place in Dakshin Bhangamore village of Damodarpur union of the upazila around 2:30 am on Monday (December 19).
When he was taken to Sadullapur Upazila Health Complex at around 6 am on Tuesday (December 20), the doctor in charge declared him dead.
This was confirmed by Damodarpur Union Parishad (UP) member Abdur Rahim Miah.
The house of deceased Habijar Rahman is in Chakmamrojpur village of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila. Habija is known to be involved in the theft business for a long time.
UP member Abdur Rahim Mia, quoting locals, said that at that time of night, a group of thieves stole cows from the house of Nuru Mia, son of the deceased Gafur Mia of Bhangamore village. When the people realized this, they chased a thief and beat him up. He was seriously injured and taken to Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday morning. At that time, the doctor declared the thief dead.
Sadullapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Roy was contacted over the phone, but he did not answer the phone.
