BNP-police clash in Lakhai, 50 injured including police
Police clashed with BNP activists in Lakhai of Habiganj. More than half a hundred activists including the police were injured. Police fired several rounds of rubber bullets to control the situation. Yesterday, Wednesday (November 16) at 6 pm, BNP held a rally at Bamoi Bazar of the upazila. When the police stopped them, they chased each other. At one point they got involved in a conflict. The police then fired rubber bullets and teargas to bring the situation under control. After a long struggle the situation came under control.
Locals said that in the evening, BNP leaders and activists called a workers’ rally at the party office in Bamoi Bazar. Upazila BNP convenor Sheikh Farid Mia presided over it and the chief guest was the cooperative affairs secretary of BNP central committee GK Gauch. Leaders and activists of district, upazila and union level were present at this time. When the police insisted on ending the rally quickly, they got into an argument with the activists. At one point, both sides clashed. Assembly chairs were vandalized. Police fired several rounds of rubber bullets during the clash.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lakhai Police Station Nunu Mia said that rubber bullets were fired to control the situation. In this, OC (Investigation) Champak Dham, SI Debashish, Rabbi and 10 policemen were injured. A case will be filed in this regard. On the other hand, several activists of BNP are also reported to have been injured.
