Beneficiaries are not staying in Shaistaganj shelter project
In Shaistaganj upazila, most of the beneficiaries are not staying in the houses of the shelter project built for the landless and homeless on the occasion of Mujib year. Many people are selling their houses by showing them as landless despite being rich by managing public representatives. Some people are paying monthly rent.
On the surface, these houses built on different special lands of the upazila can be seen, many houses are locked in different places. Allotment of houses without proper verification and taking people from one area to another area for allotment of houses are considered by various public representatives to be not staying in the house.
According to the office of the Upazila Project Implementation Officer, on the occasion of Mujib year, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd phases in Shaestaganj upazila, houses were built for landless and homeless families in Shaestaganj Municipality, Shaestaganj, Brakshandora Union as a gift from the Prime Minister. After getting the house, some families have moved out.
A few people in Alapur and Ladiya shelter projects in Shaistaganj said that the owners of the houses have left where they used to live. Several families are only occupying the houses after understanding them but they have not come back. They said that they do not know why they are not coming. Poor people feel that it is very necessary to supervise the upazila administration in this regard.
In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Najratun Naeem said that the news which is found to be irregular will be checked and handed over to the landless and poor. It is said that action is being taken against those who have done so.
