Chhatra League leader arrested in cow theft case

A Chhatra League leader named Babli Akter has been arrested by the police in a case of cow theft in Dhaka’s Dhamrai. He was arrested from his home in Nayabari area of ​​Savar municipality on Wednesday morning.

Arrested Babli Akter is the daughter of Dhaka District (North) Chhatra League Student Affairs Committee and Badsha Mia of Nayabari area of ​​Savar municipality. She is said to be a third year student of Social Work Department (Hons) of Savar Government College.

According to the police, in the last seven days, 20 cows were stolen from several villages including Laduakund of Dhamrai upazila. Among them, a bull and a cow belonging to Abdul Latif of Laduakund village in Dhamrai were stolen last Sunday night. The estimated value of which is about three lakh rupees. That night, the locals chased a man named Habul Sardar and handed him over to the police after beating him up. In this incident, Abdul Latif, the owner of the cow, filed a case in Dhamrai Police Station as the plaintiff. Later, in the confession of Habul Sardar, who was detained by the police, several people including a Chhatra League leader named Babli Akhter were involved. After that, the Dhamrai police station conducted a raid in the Nayabari area of ​​Savar on Wednesday morning and arrested five people from various places including Chhatra League leader Babli Akter.

Ashraful Islam, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Dhamrai police station, who is investigating the case, told the media that Babli Akhtar developed friendship with the cow thieves through his friend Shamim. Since then, he kept the stolen cows in his house and sold them. So far five cows have been kept in his custody and sold. Babli Akhter also admitted in the initial interrogation that he slaughtered a bull and sold the meat to the butcher. He will be sent to court on Thursday.

Dhaka District (North) Chhatra League president Saidul Islam said about the arrest of Babli Akter in the case of cow theft, “Babali Akter is the girl affairs editor of Dhaka District (North) Chhatra League.” A letter will be sent to the Central Committee recommending his expulsion from the organization for his involvement in unethical activities. At the same time today (Wednesday) he is being relieved from the post.
